Vattenfall UK Export Contract – RDF

Hartlepool-based multi-fuel provider PROBIO Energy has signed an export contract with Vattenfall in Sweden to supply Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) from the UK. The deal will see more than 60,000 tonnes of RDF exported from two major North East ports. Vattenfall is one of Europe’s largest generators of electricity and the largest producer of heat. The main products they supply are electricity, heat and gas.
PROBIO Energy managing director Stuart Rain said he was ‘excited’ about future growth in the overseas market and the company’s strategy of becoming a major leader in the waste to energy market.
“We have spent a lot of time and effort in the RDF market and only work with reliable producers of RDF. We see Baled RDF as a product, rather than a waste and we have very strict quality control measures in place to ensure the fuel meets the demands of our customers.”
“Current export contracts have seen an investment of over £10m in two new refuse derived fuel lines in the North of England to help meet demand and divert as much waste as possible away from landfill into more productive use.“
