End of life tyres can be shredded to produce Tyre Derived Fuel (TDF). This material is quite often mixed with other combustible fuels to create energy for use in cement kilns, power stations and paper mills. There are many environmental benefits such as reducing the need for fossil fuels and reducing emissions in particular oxides of nitrogen, which affect air quality. TDF produces approximately 25% more energy than coal.
